Mental Health Services
MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center’s behavioral and mental health department takes a multidisciplinary approach to mental health care. Psychiatrists and case managers work as a team with psychologists, social workers, clinical counselors, and psychiatric nurses and technicians. Our inpatient service provides hospitalization for adults and adolescents with emotional and behavioral problems.
The psychiatric team works together with the patient and family members as appropriate to customize a treatment plan including counseling and psychological education, symptom management, supportive group therapy, expressive therapy, and medication education. Our Behavioral Health Department also offers round-the-clock emergency psychiatric evaluations and crisis intervention.
