Mall Walkers Program

Have you ever wanted to start an exercise program, but weren't sure how to handle the time and expense required? You're not alone. As we know, exercise has significant health benefits, including weight loss, reduced health risks, and increased energy. But it doesn't have to be expensive or difficult. MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center designed a common-sense program that didn't require costly gym memberships or exercise equipment: it is based on the widely-recommended idea of a daily fitness walk.

Walk for the Health of It

Walking is a great way to get the health benefits of cardiovascular exercise without straining your bones and joints. Studies have shown that walking daily can significantly decrease a person's risk of heart attack and stroke, helps control blood pressure, strengthens bones and joints, lowers the risk of breast cancer and type II diabetes, decreases anxiety and depression, increases energy, and improves the quality of sleep. That's quite a bit of benefit for the price of a pair of walking shoes.

How Mall Walkers Works

20151020_103_rsParticipants walk as much as they like in the mall's secure, well-lit, and climate controlled environment. Free blood pressure screening and health information is available on site. And monthly guest speakers keep walkers up to date on the latest health topics. So come walk for the health of it; it's simple, it's free, and it can help you maintain your good health for years to come.
