Our hospital was founded by a physician who was determined to build a center of excellence in healthcare and health education for the people of Southern Maryland, bringing healthcare back to the bedside. Our founder's vision drives us to this day - we are committed to combining the best technology available with personal care and attention in our patient care.
More than a job, being a nurse at MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center means being part of a community. You'll enjoy working as part of a collegial team of physicians, nurses, and staff: we are a close-knit group whose values include exceptional patient care, democratic decision-making, work/life balance and respect for all.
MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center offers an outstanding compensation package, educational opportunities, and retirement benefits. Flexible scheduling and part-time employment are also available. We are committed to offering continuing education benefits and tuition assistance to our current employees. We believe in supporting continual education throughout one's nursing career. These employees combine your nursing education with on the job health care experience. Training alongside our nursing staff bridges the transition from Student Nurse to Acute Care Nurse after graduation.
Nurse Residency Program
By providing our new-to-practice nurses with both education and support, the American Association of Colleges of Nursing Residency Program helps nurses with baccalaureate degrees make the transition from advanced beginners to competent professionals. It allows nurses the opportunity to combine clinical care with classroom didactic material, as well as the opportunity to present an evidence-based project at the end of the residency. In 2015, our inaugural cohort of nine nurses graduated from the year-long program, and we welcomed the second cohort of seven nurses in 2016. This month, our hospital begins its third cohort of this program. Our hospital is proud to support the nurses participating in our residency program and to help them become clinically sound, competent, empowered and committed MedStar nurses.
